Screencastify – Chrome Add On

Looking for an easy to use video screencast WEB2oOL that is built right into your Chrome web browser?  Screencastify is your 2oOL (make sure you open this link in Chrome)!   Once you add this to Chrome, just click the “film strip” icon in the upper right hand corner to open the menu shown below.  If you choose Desktop, you will be recording everything that is view-able on your desktop.  Notice, you can add your “face”/webcam video to the screencast.  When you are done recording, you will get the option to copy the link (if you are saving to Google Drive and not locally).  This is the link you will use to share with others.  It is open to anyone with a link, so BV students will be able to see BV teacher videos, and vice-versa.  With the FREE (Lite) version, you get up to 10 minutes per video and up to 50 recordings per month.

YouTube – How to Loop

It is so simple, just right-click on the video and select loop. MAC users, use 2 fingers to right-click.

Works great when you post photos to YouTube for end of end of year presentations.  I use Movie Maker to make my slideshows, with just a couple of clicks.  Then I save my movie to my computer and upload to YouTube.  If you have a small number of photos, you can use YouTube Slideshow as well! This app takes some time for them to load, so this is why I jump into Movie Maker to do this if I have a lot of photos.  Movie Maker is on your Windows 10 laptop.  MAC folks, you can use Movie Maker.

Blogger

Blogger is a wonderful WEB2oOL to use to create blogs.  This is a great option if you want your students to create their own blogs.  BV Students can login with their BV Google accounts, create and start publishing posts.  Student directions: blogger-instructions-bv-students

Integration Idea:

  • World Language has a travel unit in which they ask their students to create a Blog.  Ask Emily Brown about how she is using this WEB2oOL with her Spanish students!

Canva

Looking for a free online poster/graphic maker?  Canva.com is brilliant!  Empowering the world to design is their motto, and they do just that.  There are templates for just about all of your design needs.  Here are a couple of examples.

I took the one above and created this poster to assist my folks with WIFI issues.  I posted this to twitter and on our student links page.   In addition to downloading the graphic, you can export as a link, and embed code.   This WEB2OOL also allows you to add collaborators and complete a project together.  You can also sign in with your BV Google account, one less password to remember!

Watch my video tutorial to see how you can send between teachers and students and require a login.  This is super for quizzes, voting or anything where you want to ensure that the user is who they say that they are.

Teacher Integration Ideas:

  • Collect parent information at Back to School Night.
  • Collect data from a science lab, then share the response sheet to the class for analysis.
  • Use as a sign up for limited seats, for example to sign up for JAG during PLC.  Use form limiter to limit the number in attendance.
  • Collect data with surveys.
  • Convert office/clerical forms to Google Forms.
  • Students can grade student presentations as they watch to provide additional feedback from their peers.
  • Use the Quizzes feature to collect AFL data from students.

Teacher Integration Ideas:

  • Create a Google Slide to hold your daily lesson plans. Here is an example from BVW’s Chemistry PLC.
  • Create a group presentation or review game with your class.  Each student is responsible for a certain number of slides with assigned content.
  • Create a presentation to promote activities and clubs and give access to the staff to create their own slide.  Here is an example of the clubs at BVW.  We have done this with staff introductions and birthdays too!
