Screencastify – Chrome Add On

Looking for an easy to use video screencast WEB2oOL that is built right into your Chrome web browser?  Screencastify is your 2oOL (make sure you open this link in Chrome)!   Once you add this to Chrome, just click the “film strip” icon in the upper right hand corner to open the menu shown below.  If you choose Desktop, you will be recording everything that is view-able on your desktop.  Notice, you can add your “face”/webcam video to the screencast.  When you are done recording, you will get the option to copy the link (if you are saving to Google Drive and not locally).  This is the link you will use to share with others.  It is open to anyone with a link, so BV students will be able to see BV teacher videos, and vice-versa.  With the FREE (Lite) version, you get up to 10 minutes per video and up to 50 recordings per month.

YouTube – How to Loop

It is so simple, just right-click on the video and select loop. MAC users, use 2 fingers to right-click.

Works great when you post photos to YouTube for end of end of year presentations.  I use Movie Maker to make my slideshows, with just a couple of clicks.  Then I save my movie to my computer and upload to YouTube.  If you have a small number of photos, you can use YouTube Slideshow as well! This app takes some time for them to load, so this is why I jump into Movie Maker to do this if I have a lot of photos.  Movie Maker is on your Windows 10 laptop.  MAC folks, you can use Movie Maker.

SafeShare.TV provides a safe way to watch and share YouTube videos.   It is simple, just copy and paste the link to the YouTube video into the provided box and click Generate SafeView.  Here are some advantages:

  • This eliminates ads and other videos that populate.
  • There is no sign in. You make it and take it.
  • You can edit the start and end positions (trim your video, I needed that years ago when I would accidentally leave my video recorder on after the lesson)!
  • You have the ability to make them private so they are not searchable via, but they are shareable via a link.
  • You can turn off the ability to download your video.
  • You can use this to “LOOP” your YouTube videos.  Please note that it takes some time to create the “endless video”, so be patient.  I ended up leaving it overnight, and the next day it was done.  I just did this 4 second video and it took a little over an hour to render. Check it out – no idea who is in that video?!?!  Link to Looped 4 Second Video

Integration Ideas:

  • Use to display your flipped classroom videos.  Many folks hold back from posting their videos to YouTube for fear of privacy.  I will challenge you to post them as “unlisted” and share the link to!  This accomplishes a couple of things.  Students do not have to download the video and hope that the file type is compatible with their device.  It also allows them a safe viewing experience.  Win, win! Shout Out to Theresa Grospitch for using this!
  • Coaches and sponsors, use this at your banquets.  If you use the Loop feature, your videos will continue endlessly. Plus you won’t risk the ads and the end of the video images that populate.
  • Administrators, use this for your presentations.  Especially the all school videos!  You can create the link and share it in advance with all stake holders to be sure that it is the correct video and that it is school appropriate.

Office Mix: PowerPoint Add-In to Add Voice, Digital Ink, Quizzes & More

Watch this demo to see what you can do. Kids too!

BV Folks, you all have this installed since you updated to Windows 10.  Student machines have this tab as well.  Helpdesk it, if you do not have this tab.

WeVideo is an “in the cloud” video editing tool.  It is not as good as iMovie or Windows Live Essentials: Movie Maker but it is a great alternative if you don’t have those tools installed on all of the computers that you plan to use to create your video.  The free version has some limitations in terms of size and export time, but it will create a small 3 – 7 minute video with layers of audio, graphics and transitions.  You can NOT export and download as a take-away file.  You can export to Vimeo though.  You can even invite project members into your project for a collaborative work environment!
