YouTube – How to Loop

It is so simple, just right-click on the video and select loop. MAC users, use 2 fingers to right-click.

Works great when you post photos to YouTube for end of end of year presentations.  I use Movie Maker to make my slideshows, with just a couple of clicks.  Then I save my movie to my computer and upload to YouTube.  If you have a small number of photos, you can use YouTube Slideshow as well! This app takes some time for them to load, so this is why I jump into Movie Maker to do this if I have a lot of photos.  Movie Maker is on your Windows 10 laptop.  MAC folks, you can use Movie Maker.

OneDrive on the iPad

There was a day in BV where the iPad would not work inherently with the iPad to view and edit the users working files (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Well, that day o365-in-ipadis gone!  If you have your working files in OneDrive, then you can also work with them on an iPad (and other devices, but that is a different post)!

If you still have your working files on the HDrive, what are you waiting for.  Move them to the cloud!  Directions

Google Drive: Create a Shareable Link Between Student and Teacher

Sharing Google Drive files is fairly straight forward; however, there is a caveat for BV users.  You can’t share between students and teachers with authentication (require that the user sign in) because students and teachers are in different domains (NET/ORG).  Staff can share with staff, and students can share with students (requiring authentication).  But students and teachers cannot share with each other and require that the user sign in.  The only way to share files and folders is to share as “Anyone with the Link”.  Please note that “anyone with a link” can access these files.  See this video to learn how!

In addition, you can share folders by right clicking the folder, and select Share.  Just like the video describes above, you will select “Anyone with the Link”.

NOTE:  Teachers, if you are sharing content with your students, be sure that you make it “Can view” unless you want them to have additional rights.

Google Forms carry this same issue.  However, you can select that they collect an email address. This requires that they login with any Google Account, and they can input any email address that they want. Bummer!

Additionally, these issue are replicated in O365 with some exceptions.  More to come on this.

Google Drive: Forms New Feature – Collect Files

I have been patiently waiting for this.  Google Forms has added a new feature that allows you to collect documents!  See this help site to learn more: https://sites.google.com/site/scriptsexamples/home/announcements/google-forms-file-upload-feature

Caveat for BV users.  You can’t share this with your students since they are in a different domain.  Staff can share with staff.  Here is an image that may help you understand the issue.

If you are unfamiliar with Google Forms, see this video!  It upgraded in 2015.  This video helps you with these changes as well.

SafeShare.TV

SafeShare.tv provides a safe way to watch and share YouTube videos.   It is simple, just copy and paste the link to the YouTube video into the provided box and click Generate SafeView.  Here are some advantages:

  • This eliminates ads and other videos that populate.
  • There is no sign in. You make it and take it.
  • You can edit the start and end positions (trim your video, I needed that years ago when I would accidentally leave my video recorder on after the lesson)!
  • You have the ability to make them private so they are not searchable via SafeShare.tv, but they are shareable via a link.
  • You can turn off the ability to download your video.
  • You can use this to “LOOP” your YouTube videos.  Please note that it takes some time to create the “endless video”, so be patient.  I ended up leaving it overnight, and the next day it was done.  I just did this 4 second video and it took a little over an hour to render. Check it out – no idea who is in that video?!?!  Link to Looped 4 Second Video

Integration Ideas:

  • Use to display your flipped classroom videos.  Many folks hold back from posting their videos to YouTube for fear of privacy.  I will challenge you to post them as “unlisted” and share the link to SafeShare.tv!  This accomplishes a couple of things.  Students do not have to download the video and hope that the file type is compatible with their device.  It also allows them a safe viewing experience.  Win, win! Shout Out to Theresa Grospitch for using this!
  • Coaches and sponsors, use this at your banquets.  If you use the Loop feature, your videos will continue endlessly. Plus you won’t risk the ads and the end of the video images that populate.
  • Administrators, use this for your presentations.  Especially the all school videos!  You can create the link and share it in advance with all stake holders to be sure that it is the correct video and that it is school appropriate.

Office Mix: PowerPoint 2oOL- Upload to Share

Spice up your PowerPoints with Office Mix!  If you have not made your first Mix, click here to learn more about this before you preview this post.  BVW Staff and Students have this installed.  Once you create your first Mix, you can upload it to share as a link, embed code or to various social media website.  You can access Office Mix Online here (download if needed, or click Sign-In and use your Microsoft School Account to login):  https://mix.office.com/

MS Word: Add Form Elements

Do you think it is odd to fill out a Word form that has underlines in the places that they want you to enter text?  Do you delete the line, do you just type in the middle of it?  It is really strange!  Word has a 2oOL that you can use to create a fill-able document.  See the screen shots for directions on how to do that. Or open this document for complete directions along with an example of some of the form items that Word has included: Word_MakeFillableDocument.

Directions – Part 1 – Add the Developer Tab:

Word_InputAndCheckBoxes

Step 2 – Create and Make Usable:

Word_MakeFillableDocument Part 2

When you share this, keep it as a word document.  When you save as PDF, this will eliminate your form features.  Of course, Adobe PDF has their own Form Creation 2oOL.  It is a bit more complicated than this little gem, so try this out first.  If you want to start collecting data, get with me on some viable options.

WIX

Need a website, Blog or Newsletter?  Wix is an EASY site that offers a free way to post your content to the web.  This is great for clubs, sports and the classroom.  Are you looking for a 2oOL for students to to use to create their own e-portfolios, this is a great option!
